My 10 favourite shopping spots in Mallorca
My background has always been in fashion, and there is no doubt that shopping has played a significant role in my life. Mostly when prepping for shoots and shows. When I first worked on The Voice UK, I had 40 contestants to style. Let me tell you, that involves a lot of shopping. This went on for 5 years, so imagine how much time I spent in stores and online.
When I moved to Mallorca, I was ready for a change of pace, a change of lifestyle and ready to take my foot off the pedal, so to speak. However, I will always love clothes, and I was keen to seek out some cool, off-the-beaten-track independents on the island. These are by no means the only ones to visit. I have discovered these 10 in the last 2 years, and I am sure there are more to come. However, if you are visiting Mallorca anytime soon or in the future, you can use this as 'Gayle's Guide' to her favourite shops on the island.
FOLKLORIOUS - Palma
Imagine walking into Carrie Bradshaw's closet, peppered with her friend's pieces they have left behind. This is Folklorious, an eclectic mix of fantastic collections from around the world. A treasure trove of true wonder. If you're after a hot pink tulle skirt, this is the place, or a standout dress for a special event, that you can be sure no one else will be wearing. Eva and Payam, the owners, have a gift of seeking out a fabulous selection to offer you something unique.

ISSO - Palma
This is my favourite shop on the island or at least the one place I have bought several things. They do boho beautifully, and I was delighted to rediscover Antik Batik again after not seeing it anywhere for years. They also showcase young up-and-coming designers and those who specialise in unique crafts. Aside from the clothing, you will also find a great selection of jewellery, natural well-being products, bags and shoes. Not to mention the friendliest and most helpful staff.

VILLA VINTAGE - Santa Catalina
Designer secondhand at its very best on the island. Brimming with clothes, shoes, bags, jewellery and accessories. There is even a Chanel corner, which, to be honest, I could hang around at for hours. Obviously, the stock changes frequently, but don't miss an opportunity to wander in and have a good rummage. There are five rooms to work through, so maybe go when you have an hour or two to spare.

THE CAVE - Palma
If you're coming to Mallorca and want to find something for a special night out or a big party, or if you're really into fashion and design, you must visit The Cave. The store is impressive in its own right, both in terms of size and decor. The owners have a fabulous eye for style and have curated a sophisticated collection of pieces from both well-known and emerging designers. If you're lucky enough to visit when one of the owners is present, you'll be very well looked after.

FORUM - Palma
This is THE place to go for your Isabel Marant fix, Anine Bing, Ulla Johnson, Golden Goose, AMI Paris, and Ganni, as well as some other lesser-known brands that seamlessly sit alongside these. There are two shops next to each other, one selling what we used to call 'diffusion' ranges and the other, a more high-end option. Both are worth visiting, as they often feature different pieces not available online or in the UK.

MIMOSSA - Valdemossa
A stylish multi-brand shop in the heart of Valdemossa, one of the most beautiful villages in Mallorca. My advice is to avoid July and August, as it is jam-packed with tourists and coaches arriving every half hour. However, the shop is glorious, offering a really good mix of brands for both men and women, as well as some cute items for the kids. Several of the brands are also committed to sustainability.

BOSSA - Palma
With three stores on the back streets of Palma, you are bound to stumble on at least one of them and discover something lovely. They have a vast selection of jewellery in one of the shops and a curated selection of clothes in the others. Pretty and feminine is what springs to mind, and you can easily while away an afternoon flitting from one shop to the next as they are all so close to each other. I have a great pair of pink cords that I purchased here, and they have become a much-loved item of clothing.

OBSOLETE - 3 destinations
Obsolete is not just for fashion; it is a magnificent destination for furniture and decor. Antique and new. There are three stores, one in Santa Catalina, one in Deia and one in Valdemossa. They are all worth visiting, but if I had to choose just one, it would be the one in Deia, as it's next door to a stunning clothes shop full of Antik Batik. If you're after a special piece for your home, be sure to weave this place into your trip.

JUST ME - Illetas
A beachside boutique that is a welcome distraction from sunbathing all day. The best selection of swimwear, cover-ups, beach bags, colourful maxi dresses and great sandals. Resort wear at its finest. Brands like Place Du Soleil, Piti Cuiti and Banana Moon fill this shop with colour, colour and more colour. There's even a section for the men.

SEBBI - Palma
Sebastian and Bibi have curated the most adorable store. A bit like them, to be honest! A mix of Scandinavian and Columbian vibes, which reflects the heritage of the couple. Everything is for sale: the wall hangings, the jewellery, the mirrors, light fittings, cushions, and, of course, the clothes. There is Columbian coffee if you fancy a 'pick me up' or a glass of wine if that's more your style. Still, either way, pop along, even if it's just for somewhere to sit out of the heat of the day, and if you leave with a purchase, then that's just the cherry on top.
